Key Offseason Moves

The Yankees made their biggest splash of the offseason on January 27, 2026, when they re-signed Cody Bellinger to a five-year, $162.5 million contract. The deal includes a $20 million signing bonus, opt-outs after years two and three, a full no-trade clause, and no deferrals. Bellinger had declined a $25 million player option from his previous deal to test free agency, betting on himself after a resurgent 2025 campaign. In his first season with the Yankees, he slashed .272/.345/.468 with 29 home runs and an .813 OPS across 152 games, his best full season since winning NL MVP in 2019 with the Dodgers. The switch-hitter was especially dominant against left-handed pitching, leading all left-handed hitters in OBP (.415) and slugging (.601) versus lefties.

Before locking up Bellinger, the Yankees addressed their rotation depth by acquiring Ryan Weathers from the Miami Marlins in exchange for four prospects. Weathers adds a left-handed arm to a rotation that desperately needed reinforcements given the injury situation heading into spring training. The 25-year-old has starter experience but has never made more than 16 starts in a single season, so workload management will be something to monitor throughout the year. The Yankees also signed utility infielder Amed Rosario to a one-year, $2.5 million deal to provide depth in the middle infield, particularly with Anthony Volpe expected to miss significant time early in the season.

At the 2025 trade deadline, the Yankees made a flurry of moves that reshaped the roster for 2026 and beyond. They acquired third baseman Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies (under contract through 2027 at $16M per year), closer David Bednar from the Pittsburgh Pirates, setup man Camilo Doval from the San Francisco Giants, and reliever Jake Bird from the Rockies. The bullpen additions were critical, as Devin Williams struggled badly after arriving in a preseason blockbuster and ultimately departed for the Mets along with Luke Weaver. Bednar seized the closer role and was outstanding down the stretch, going 4-0 with 10 saves, a 2.19 ERA, and a 36% strikeout rate as a Yankee. Paul Goldschmidt was re-signed on a one-year, $4 million guarantee and will likely fill a platoon role at first base alongside Ben Rice.

Anthony Volpe, the regular starting shortstop, is out until at least May after undergoing surgery to repair a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder. The injury dates back to a diving play on May 3, 2025, and Volpe played through it the entire second half of the season. The results were ugly: a .212 batting average with 19 home runs and a career-high 19 errors. Jose Caballero and Oswaldo Cabrera will split time at shortstop until Volpe returns and proves he is fully healthy. The silver lining is that Caballero brings elite speed to the lineup, making him a stolen base prop target while he is in the starting lineup.

This lineup is built entirely around Aaron Judge. When Judge is healthy and mashing, the entire lineup's counting stats go up because pitchers cannot work around him with this much protection in the order. Bellinger, Stanton, and Wells bat directly behind him, which means Judge will see pitches to hit rather than being pitched around constantly. The Yankee Stadium short porch in right field also inflates home run and total bases numbers for left-handed and switch-hitters like Bellinger, Wells, Chisholm, and Dominguez. For prop bettors, the Yankee Stadium factor is critical. Fly balls to right field at Yankee Stadium become home runs at a significantly higher rate than at most parks. Target HR props for lefty and switch bats at home, and lean toward total bases overs when the Yankees are playing in the Bronx. The hitter props strategy guide breaks down park factors in more detail.

Yankees 2026 Projected Starting Rotation

The Yankees enter 2026 with significant rotation concerns that will shape their first two months of the season. Gerrit Cole is recovering from Tommy John surgery using the internal brace procedure and will almost certainly start the season on the 60-day injured list, with a return expected in May or June depending on his rehab progression. Carlos Rodon underwent surgery in October 2025 to remove loose bodies and a bone spur from his left elbow, with a return expected in late April or early May. Clarke Schmidt may also miss time at the start of the season with lingering injury concerns.

SlotPitcherThrowsNoteK Prop Note

2Cam SchlittlerRYoung arm stepping into a big roleUnproven at MLB level, risky for props early
3Will WarrenRInternal option getting opportunitySmall sample size means volatility
4Ryan Weathers AcquiredLAcquired from Marlins for four prospectsNever started more than 16 games in a season

ILCarlos Rodon ILLElbow surgery Oct 2025, return April/MayHigh whiff rate, big K upside when back

When healthy, this rotation projects as Cole, Fried, Rodon, Gil or Schmidt, with Schlittler and Warren providing depth. That is a frontline trio of Cole, Fried, and Rodon that can match up with almost anyone in October. But that rotation will not exist until at least May or June, and the Yankees need to survive until then with a patchwork group of young arms. For strikeout prop bettors, this is a "wait and see" rotation to start the season. Max Fried is a ground-ball pitcher, not a high-strikeout arm, so his K props are not the play. Once Cole returns, his strikeout upside is elite. The pitcher strikeout props strategy guide explains how to identify high-K matchups.

Bullpen and Closer Situation

David Bednar is the closer heading into 2026 after seizing the ninth-inning role from Devin Williams at the 2025 trade deadline. Bednar, a two-time All-Star acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates, was outstanding down the stretch, going 4-0 with 10 saves, a 2.19 ERA, and striking out 36% of the batters he faced as a Yankee. Williams struggled badly with an ERA above 5.00 by late July and fell into mop-up duty before eventually signing with the Mets in the offseason. Bednar brings stability and big-game experience to the ninth inning.

Camilo Doval and Fernando Cruz slot in as the primary setup men. Doval was acquired from the San Francisco Giants at the same 2025 deadline that brought Bednar, giving the Yankees a late-inning duo with swing-and-miss stuff. Tim Hill returns as the left-handed specialist, Clayton Beeter provides high-leverage depth, and Jake Cousins rounds out the middle-inning options. The Yankees also signed veteran Rafael Montero to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training.

For prop bettors, the bullpen is solid but will be tested heavily early in the season because of the rotation injuries. With Schlittler, Warren, and Weathers unlikely to pitch deep into games consistently, the bullpen will accumulate significant innings in March and April. This means more unpredictability in late-game scoring. Wait until the full rotation is back and starting pitchers are going six or seven innings before trusting Yankees game scripts to play out cleanly in the late innings.

Yankees 2026 Prop Betting Angles

Aaron Judge Home Runs

Aaron Judge home run props at Yankee Stadium are the best bet in baseball on any given night. Judge hit 58 home runs in 2022 and is a consistent 40+ HR hitter in every full season. At Yankee Stadium, with its short right-field porch, Judge sees elevated home run rates even as a right-handed hitter because of his raw power to center and right-center field. His home run props at home should be targeted aggressively all season long, especially against right-handed pitchers who struggle to keep the ball on the ground.

Cody Bellinger Home Runs

Cody Bellinger's switch-hitting makes him a matchup-proof prop play. He led all left-handed hitters in OBP (.415) and slugging (.601) against left-handed pitching in 2025, which eliminates the usual concern about platoon disadvantages. His home run props and hits props at Yankee Stadium carry reduced risk because you do not need to worry about avoiding him when a tough lefty is on the mound. That consistency is rare and creates value in prop markets that often discount switch-hitters.

The early-season rotation Team Totals

The early-season rotation makes OVER team totals attractive against the Yankees in March and April. With Schlittler, Warren, and Weathers starting instead of Cole and Rodon, opposing lineups will have opportunities to put up crooked numbers. Combined game totals should trend over early in the season. Once Cole and Rodon return, this angle reverses. The advanced stats for MLB props guide explains how to identify these high-scoring environments.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. Stolen Bases / Home Runs

Jazz Chisholm power-speed props are undervalued by the market. Chisholm joined the 30/30 club in 2025 with 31 home runs and 31 stolen bases, making him one of the most versatile prop targets in baseball. His stolen base props early in the season are worth targeting because he brings a level of athleticism and aggression on the basepaths that creates value. His combination of speed and power makes him a rare player where both HR props and SB props are playable on any given night.

Fade Anthony Volpe Total Bases

Fade Anthony Volpe props when he returns, at least initially. When Volpe comes back in May from labrum surgery, he will be returning with a career .662 OPS and a .222 batting average from his injury-plagued 2025 season. His UNDER on hits and total bases will be the sharp play for the first few weeks after his return, until he proves the shoulder is fully healed and he can drive the ball again.
